St. Nicholas Episcopal Church of Paradise was begun by way of a newspaper article in l950. Howard Wilkin advertised in the local paper inviting interested parties to a meeting on the subject of starting a mission of the Episcopal Church. The first service was held at Paradise Memorial Hall, October 5, 1950. Orange crates reportedly served as an altar and Reverend A.C. King officiated. By l982 the church had grown sufficiently to become an official parish.
The land here at the corner of Skyway and Oliver was donated by an early parishioner, Emma McGregor. In l959 the first church building was constructed. This original structure of cozy dimensions and stained glass is now located at the back of the property. The beautiful new structure we know as St. Nicholas Episcopal Church today was completed in the year 2000.
