Blessed to Be a Blessing

"I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing."

                                                                                                           Genesis 12:2 (NIV)

To live out the Gospel message, it is not enough to worship God within the walls of our church building. We must reach out and respond to our neighbors in Christ's love. Here at St. Nick's, we have begun to ask members of our local community the important question,

                                                           How Can We Help?

To whom should we ask that question? To any and all we might serve.  Some examples we have tried so far include: adopting families at Christmas, providing birthday parties for children who wouldn't have them otherwise, serving free hot meals to the hungry, helping people with yard work or meals, helping people move, providing needed rides to appointments, volunteering at the local schools, serving as mentors.

If you wish to bless our community as part of a group, these outreach ministries are an excellent place to get involved:

FREE HOT MEALS MINISTRY

Once a month we serve a free hot meal to the hungry in Paradise.  This is a new, vibrant, and growing ministry.  Our goal is to work toward serving a free, hot, daily meal to the hungry, inviting other churches to participate.  We are currently exploring ways to remodel our kitchen to bring it up to code so we can serve the public.  Meanwhile we are using the kitchen at Paradise Lutheran Church.  Volunteers are needed to serve food, bus tables, and clean up.

CHAT AND SEW

Members of this group meet every Tuesday from 10 a.m.
to 1:30 p.m. to make stuffed animals to give to hospitalized
children, assemble 12 layettes per year to give to needy
mothers at the hospital, and make quilts and lap robes for
hospice and nursing homes.  This group is also in charge
of the annual holiday faire.  All proceeds from the faire are
donated to the church.  New members of all skill levels are
always welcome!

"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
